Copy the link to an X post
Open the post on X, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. Links from x.com, twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com work, and so do t.co short links, including addresses that end in /photo/1 or /video/1 or carry tracking parameters.
Copy the link to the post itself, not to a profile, list or search page. If a reply or a quote shows the media you want, open that exact post first, because SnappyDL only reads the post the link points to.
Videos, GIFs and photos in one post
An X post can hold up to four attachments. When it has more than one, use the numbered buttons to move between them. Each item lists only its own files, so a photo in the first slot tells you nothing about a video in the second.
Animated GIFs on X are really short silent videos, so they download as MP4 files without sound. Photos are offered at the original size X stores, which is usually larger than the version you see in your timeline.
Pick the video quality
X keeps several MP4 versions of each video. SnappyDL lists the HD and SD files it finds and shows the real resolution next to each one, so you can pick a small file for messaging or the sharpest one to keep.
Turn on Highest quality before you look up the link if you also want the largest version. Streaming-only playlist formats are left out on purpose, because a browser would save them as a text file instead of a video you can play.
Why some posts show nothing to download
SnappyDL only handles posts that contain photos, videos or GIFs. A post that is only text, or that just links to an article or another website, has no media file to save, so you will see a short message instead of results.
If the media sits inside a quoted post, open the quoted post and copy its own link. Media from protected accounts, deleted posts and posts that need you to sign in cannot be reached either.
Save the files and use them fairly
Tap the download button beside the file you want; your browser decides where it is saved. On a phone, check the downloads panel or the Files app if the video does not show up in your gallery right away, and keep the page open until the download starts.
Download links expire after a while, so look up the post again if one stops working. Local History keeps the posts you looked up in this browser. Only save media you made or have permission to use, and credit the creator when you share it.
